Two calf elephants rescued by Wildlife Officers


Anuradhapura Wildlife Veterinary Surgeon Chandana Jayasinghe said that they are under his
custody. He said that these two calves are healthy and still depending on milk for their sustenance.

The three month old calf elephant was found in Kekirawa, Ganewalpola area while it was
stranded in the jungle after its mother had died in a shooting incident. On information received from the villagers, the Wildlife Officers have come to the spot and taken the calf into their custody.

The other calf aged three and half months was found in a cultivation well and was rescued by
the Wildlife Officers.
