Mahiyanganaya locals protest against wild elephant attack


COLOMBO (News 1st) – A group of locals in Mahiyanganaya are currently staging a protest obstructing the 17th milepost area along the Mahiyanganaya – Bibila main road.

The protest was launched following an elephant attack early this morning (March 10) that claimed the life of a 54-year-old resident of the area. The deceased is a father of three. The victim met with the unfortunate accident when he was walking on the way to his workplace.

The protestors urge that necessary steps be taken to eradicate the issue of wild elephants roaming in villages. News1st correspondent reported that the protest has caused significant traffic congestion in the area.
